Why You Should Never Buy These 5 Things During the Holiday Season
Deals are abundant during the holiday shopping season, but that does not mean everything is a good deal. Before you start opening your wallet for what seems like a good deal, consider these five things you should never buy during the holiday season.
1. آ Exercise Equipment
Sales on exercise equipment during the holiday season might pop up here and there, but the real sales do not start until after the New Year. The sales coincide with the multitude of New Yearق€™s Resolutions most people make. If you wait to buy anything fitness related, including fitness DVDs, workout clothing, and large fitness equipment until after January 1st, you could save between 30 and 50 percent in many cases.
2. آ High-End Computers
You will likely see electronic sales plastered all over the Black Friday ads this year. They will likely continue into the holiday season as well as retailers try to push these items out at the end of the year. Typically, however, the sales are on the mediocre machines, rather than the machines with real power. If you use your computer for more than just emails, it is best to avoid purchasing a PC or laptop during the holidays. Instead, wait until late summer, early fall to purchase them. You will usually start to see sales around late July lasting through mid-September for the best deals.
3. آ Bedding
Bedding might not be a top priority purchase for you during the holidays, but when you see ق€œhot salesق€, you might be tempted. Try to hold off, though, as this is another one of those sales that really get better with time. Just as many people have fitness resolutions, many others have household resolutions, whether to be more organized or to redecorate or both. Bedding is one of those items that you will see steep discounts on in January. Most retailers call it a ق€œWhite Saleق€ and discount their items as much as 50% after the New Year begins.
4. آ Jewelry
Who doesnق€™t love to give or receive a beautiful piece of jewelry for the holidays? While it brings all of the warm fuzzy feelings, it can cost you a lot more if you purchase them now. The demand for jewelry is high between now and Valentineق€™s Day, which means the prices are just as high. If you can wait until Valentineق€™s Day is over, you stand to save a significant amount of money on the same piece. If you really love to give or receive jewelry for the holidays, purchase it late February or early March and stash it away for the holidays next year.
5. آ Supplies for Remodeling
The holidays often make us want to make changes to our homes, but December is not the time to do it. Instead, wait until the spring and summer months when retailers are more likely to host sales on these items. Things like paint, lighting fixtures, and wallpaper are all less expensive during the months when more people tend to remodel. The only item you should consider during the holiday times in terms of remodeling is appliances as they often see the lowest prices during this time of year.
The Black Friday and Christmas sales can be very tempting, but donق€™t fall for the tactics. Do your research to see if the deals really are good or if you can snag better deals during a different time of year. Retailers know that spending is more likely between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so they prey on your emotions with the enticing sales. Keep your wits about you and know the best time to make large purchases in order to save the most money.
