Consider serving eggs for dinner or add hearty beans to a vegetable soup or pasta dish and you instantly have protein for a fraction of the cost of meat.

Rather than serving the same meal two days in a row, have one designated day, possibly at the end of the week where you serve the leftovers from each day that week. Most people have the habit of reaching in and grabbing a bag of chips, crackers or any other item and just start munching. This mindless munching can have you reaching for the bottom of the bag before you realize it. Rather than allowing that to happen, portion out individual servings in containers or bags immediately after shopping. This way everyone will stay disciplined enough to eat only the necessary amount, leaving you with food that lasts longer in the end.

Many stores offer perks for shopping at their store regularly. Make sure you are aware of any rewards programs at any of the grocery stores that you frequent so that you can get the most for the money you spend. Oftentimes they will provide you with a coupon or credit towards your next purchase just for spending a certain amount of money. Also, certain sales may be strictly offered to customers that are members of a store. The rewards programs are usually free, so there is no reason not to sign up for them.
Saving money on groceries does require a little creativity, but it is not impossible. If you shop only at one store and stick to only specific brands, you will be stuck with that unpleasant high grocery bill. On the other hand, if you shop around, vary your menu, and get a little creative, you can save a great deal of money every month.
