5 Monthly Fees that are Draining Your Wallet

Jun 05 2015 Parent Category I

There are many fees that are a necessary part of every day life, and we simply have to factor them into our budget. However, there are also fees that many people incur every month that they could cut out of their budget completely without feeling the pain. Here are five fees that you can do without and that can allow you to save a substantial amount of money.

1.آ  Gym Membership

Gym memberships can seem like a great deal in the beginning. You may justify this expense thinking youق€™ll constantly use it but in many cases, even though you sign up with great intentions, before very long it has already been six months since you last worked out, and youق€™re still paying for the gym membership every month. There are plenty of other ways to get in your daily exercise without having to deal with the often-excessive fee of signing up for a gym. However, if you do actually go to the gym on a regular basis then a gym membership may be a fee you want to deal with.

2.آ  Data Plans and Landlines

Landlines have become almost obsolete now that people just carry around cell phones everywhere. However, many families still keep their landline around in order to power their security system or because they want to feel secure in the case that their cell phone becomes lost or broken. That being said, eliminating your landline is recommended to cut an unneeded cost. Although you probably do need your cell phone, you should also consider whether or not you really need a data plan to get around, as often times youق€™ll find that Wi-Fi is enough to get by, and youق€™ll save a substantial amount of money by dropping your data plan.

3.آ  Cableآ

You can pretty much find any show you want on the Internet, and so paying a cable bill has become pretty unnecessary. If you only like a couple of shows then paying for the full load of premium cable will needlessly bust your wallet. Instead, try opting for much cheaper services such as Google TV, Roku, Hulu, Netflix and even YouTube, as they will often give you the TV shows you want for a huge discount or even for free. However, you should take your television habits into consideration, since for instance if you like to watch the news or football games on Sunday, then you may want to actually go with a cable package. Make sure that if this is the case, you can fit it in to your monthly budget.

4.آ  Airline Luggage Fees

In order to avoid paying these excessive airline fees for checking in a bag try flying with Southwest who will allow you to check in two free bags, or with JetBlue, as they will allow you to check-in one. Before you lock in your airfare, itق€™s recommended that you try using a fee-comparison tool in order to find the airfare that is cheapest when taking into consideration the checked-luggage fees. You may also want to consider skipping the baggage claim and shipping a bag through FedEx or UPS, as this can be more cost-efficient, especially if youق€™re dealing with an oversized bag.

5.آ  Car-Dealer Charges

When you purchase a new vehicle, youق€™ll often get stuck paying substantial fees that are listed on a factory invoice due to the fact that theyق€™re charges that the car manufacturer passed down to the dealer. However, you shouldnق€™t have to pay any fees that are part of a dealerق€™s business cost, as these can be avoided by going to the right dealer in order to purchase a car. This means that you should refuse to pay floor-plan fees, which are the fees in order to hold the car at the dealership, as well as vehicle-preparation fees, which is tacked on for removing plastic, checking fluids and cleaning the car. If you find a fee that isnق€™t listed in the factory invoice provided then you should refuse to pay it, or take your business elsewhere.
