Tips to Save on Your Labor Day Weekend Activities

Aug 29 2013 Parent Category I

Most people love going out and doing something special to celebrate Labor Day. This can be due to their desire to say good-bye to summer and welcome autumn, or it can just be due to the long weekend, but if you plan to do some celebrating this year, here are some helpful tips to help you enjoy the weekend’s festivities without breaking the bank.

Plan Ahead

There are many different options when it comes to celebrating. Some people like to throw a party, while others enjoy going out and buying some end of summer deals. No matter which activity is bound to take up your Labor Day weekend, you can do it for less. Going through the weekly ads and figuring out which store has what you need to buy for the lowest price can save you quite a bit of money for just a little bit of your time. You can also plan ahead if you plan to cook out or throw a party by purchasing the items you will need while they are on sale at your local grocery store.

Enjoy What Nature Has to Offer

If you are throwing a party, one of the most expensive parts to buy is often the food. The best way to be able to save on this expense is to buy foods that come from nature. Try going to your local Farmer’s Market and see what amazing deals they have for the superb quality of food over what you would typically get at a grocery store. Now, if you happen to have a green thumb and you grow the foods yourself, you can have a very inexpensive array of foods available for your guests. This can significantly cut down on the cost of throwing a party for those closest to you.

Stay Close to Home

Many people love to go on a mini-vacation over the extended Labor Day weekend. While this is a great idea, it is difficult to do on a budget. Consider looking around your home before heading out. There are new forms of vacations, called Staycations, which promote people staying at home but keeping to themselves, simply to get caught up on all of the to-do lists, or bypassed activities that typically get pushed aside. This can help you be more comfortable when you are at home, as those nagging projects will be complete, and it can still give you a fulfilling sense of accomplishment. If that is not your idea of relaxing, consider going camping in your backyard to get away from it all. Staying outside can be just as relaxing as going on a mini-vacation, especially if you leave technology inside the house. Don’t bring your cell phone or computer, just enjoy the stars and the company of your family, and enjoy the weekend.

Visit Local Attractions

For those who prefer to go out and do something over Labor Day, try visiting some of the local attractions around your town. Many people drive around their town on their way to work, school, or the store, and take notice of a new business or shop, but forget about it nearly as quickly due to the fact pace of life. Instead, try going out and taking in these new sites and seeing what they bring to the town you live in. Check out what your library has going on, and look up if your town offers any free concerts in the park as inexpensive alternatives to sitting at home or spending money at a theater or store.

If you want to figure out fun, yet inexpensive ideas that you can do during your extended Labor Day weekend, hopefully this list has inspired a few places to start looking. You don’t have to spend a lot to enjoy your weekend, and it can leave you feeling reenergized and ready to take on fall by the end of it all.
